D’oh! After upgrading to Lightroom 5 from 4.3, it seems to think my Google Drive folder is full. I had to uninstall and reinstall Lightroom, find the file and delete it. Weirdly this didn’t find the data blocks, but I have learnt to check permission issues before resorting to a factory reset. I had to activate and reinstall the Google plugin, and retrain the LR Library, and in the process lost the EXIF data for all my images. More hassle than not adding stuff to the plastic wrap in the fridge. I can live with croppies, but unapplied Smart Edit and Edit modes need metadata re-typing. I don’t think I missed any shots, and lost some vital metadata info, but I will move to the cloud if Lightroom tells me again to.

The bottom line is that all you really need is a computer, which is why I recommend Photoshop because it is a lot more powerful than Lightroom is and has a lot more options available to you when it comes to editing and creating images.

The thing to remember is that Lightroom is a great program for you if you are just starting out and want to learn about editing. As long as you are editing big files, i.e. those that are 4k and up but not much smaller than that. Ready for some bigger files?
I’m going to try and show you what you will do to Photoshop and then how to do it a little bit differently in Lightroom.
