hunter was arrested on march 23, 2018, after a domestic dispute between her and her husband of 20 years, scott. the couple has five children. hunter has an extensive criminal history, including several instances of domestic violence.

on april 18, 2018, hunter was arrested again, this time for domestic violence. on may 14, 2018, a judge ordered hunter to stay away from the family home, to stay away from her husband, to attend counseling, and to not use drugs or alcohol. a judge also ordered hunter not to contact scott, and denied hunter’s request for an order of protection. hunter was released on june 5, 2018.

on october 10, 2019, after learning that a judge had recommended that she serve her entire sentence, hunter challenged the judge’s recommendation to remain in custody. the hamilton county court of common pleas denied hunter’s motion on october 17, 2019.

tharyn moved to north carolina to attend the university of north carolina at chapel hill, where she graduated cum laude with a major in psychology and a minor in criminal justice. she continues to ride and compete at show and ida with the north carolina hunter/jumper association. she currently lives in chapel hill, north carolina.

hunter was born in cincinnati, ohio on september 30, 1992. she graduated from high school in 2010 and earned a bachelor of arts in criminology and justice studies from miami university in 2014. [13] hunter graduated from miami in 2014 with a bachelor of arts in criminology and justice studies. [14]

hunter served as a public defender from 2001 to 2004, and was a public defender attorney from 2004 to 2010. she was selected for a tenure as a juvenile court judge in 2010 and, in november, was certified by the ohio supreme court. her first assignment was to the mahoning juvenile court in youngstown. hunter’s first administrative order was issued on dec. 28, 2010.
hunter was arrested in 2011 and charged with three felony counts of theft by deception for allegedly taking more than $100,000 from a domestic relations court. she was accused of taking money from an incapacitated person’s bank account while working for the warren county probate court. hunter was later acquitted by a jury of three counts of grand theft in a case involving her father’s estate. she was also accused of receiving gifts and deposits to her personal account from her husband’s office. hunter was elected to the hamilton county juvenile court in 2012.
in a series of lawsuits filed by the law office of john p. o’donnell in 2012, hunter was accused of filing dozens of false and frivolous motions with the hamilton county court of common pleas, including several motions to change counsel or recuse judge mark schneider, as well as motions for a change of venue, discovery, and expungement of her criminal records. [32] a motions panel of the ohio supreme court dismissed the lawsuits in january 2017. [33]
on november 6, 2016, while out on bond, hunter violated the conditions of her bond by traveling to colorado to continue her work-study with lee unruh. [34] she was issued a citation for failure to obtain bond release, and the hamilton county municipal court found hunter in contempt of court.
